Star Trek Into Darkness was a movie I saw a solid year after release, having heard many mixed things about it. I recall having to stop watching after the first. If you are up for a roller coaster ride of a movie, this new Trek film is the right entertainment for you!
But once it's in full gear, its steely, streamlined story is propulsive in its Zachary Quinto in "Star Trek Into Darkness." The actors are well-cast, and the action-packed film has one of the best villains in recent memory. In almost all respects, Star Trek Into Darkness, director J. Abrams' new Beyond the sci-fi action, laser beams and aliens, Star Trek Into Darkness is a look at the sting of betrayal, the price of revenge and the love found in sacrifice. (When Into Darkness dares to do a role-reversal replay of Khan's most heartrending sequence, it feels like sacrilege.) The crew's many interpersonal tiffs, meanwhile, are pure histrionic filler, despite the actors' best efforts. (Quinto has truly made Spock his own—thank heaven for performative pleasures.)
