Alpha is among the latest in the survival film category and while it definitely is a movie that plays it safe, it's an effective little movie that I believe some audiences will eat up. "Alpha" is your basic "boy and his dog" story, except this time the dog is a wolf and the story takes place twenty-thousand years ago. This is marketed as a film about the "origins of man's best friend," but if you ask me, it's an ad designed to guilt you into buying your kids a wolf. Starring Rae Hunt, Bella Martin, Wynn. Alpha tells an interesting story with a compelling lead performance, but the pacing issues make the movie a struggle to get through. So are all the other humans, really.
