As in A Fistful of Dollars, the movie plays a numbers game, only it's not Eastwood manipulating the outlaws into killing one another so he can handle the dwindled survivors.
It stars Clint Eastwood and Lee Van Cleef as bounty hunters and Gian Maria. Looser and more relaxed as well as more elaborate than Fistful, the film is best appreciated as a series of outrageous set-pieces. A significant step forward from A Fistful of Dollars, with the usual terrific compositions, Morricone score, and taciturn performances, not to mention the ubiquitous flashback.
Mortimer smokes a meerschaum pipe throughout the movie, which is historically accurate; however, the pipe stem is obviously Lucite, a plastic first marketed in. In FOR A FEW DOLLARS MORE, Leone's thematic concerns about the civilizing influence of the family and the hypocrisy of the Church are now richly in focus. His tone of self-parody and his portrait of an unrelenting landscape where men suddenly appear and vanish are all more detailed than before. German actor Klaus Kinski also plays a supporting role as a secondary villain. For a Few Dollars More is the weakest of Sergio Leone's "Dollars" trilogy, but that's not to say it's bad. It's a bit slower than A Fistful of It's a bit slower than A Fistful of Dollars, and the plot isn't as interesting, but it's still perfeclty cast, with Clint Eastwood and character actor Lee Van.
