It attempts to do this by taking a generic gangster template and infusing it with a sprawling crime saga that implements many characters. This is essentially a "chess board" setup. The movie is filled with incredibly strong martial arts violence and fighting.
A bulkier, slower beast than Evans' first film. And while it has its flaws, it's still a monumental experience to sit through, and one that proves beyond doubt that this is a director with talent to burn. With the precision of dance and the punch of a KO champion, Evans keeps the action coming like nobody's business.
The wow factor is off the charts. Slowly, our eyes are drawn to a shallow grave in the middle of a lonely dirt road. The action also sees Iko Uwais's Rama return. The Raid is arguably a bit on the long side, but Evans doesn't believe in letting any time go by without uncorking a gobsmacking action sequence, any one of which would be the centrepiece of a lesser movie. Since this review is already loaded with confessions, I'll let you know that I had an unusually difficult time following the story here, likely because of the But that movie also had sharp dialogue, relatable characters and a sense of playfulness.
