Aguirre, The Wrath of God is not just about a group of fifteenth-century explorers but is a poignant reflection of the world we still live in. He stalks back and forth across the deck, now half awash, vowing that he will personally find EI Dorado, will conquer it single-handedly, will populate it by marrying his sister. "Aguirre, Wrath of God" is an obsessive film, about obsession. A ragtag column of men, many dressed in full armor andothers lugging an enclosed sedan chair, wend their way down a treacherous mountainsidepath.
With a stolen camera, a script, a tiny crew and no storyboard, Herzog set out to film a story of megalomania and madness. What he has created is something that exists only the way it is because of the circumstances it was created in. With Klaus Kinski, Ruy Guerra, Helena Rojo, Del Negro.
Klaus Kinski stars in the title role. The soundtrack was composed and performed by West German kosmische band Popol Vuh.
