All style and little substance, How to Steal a Million is consummately acted by the stars, but the film is stolen hands-down by a "double take" reaction The film was originally titled How to Steal a Million Dollars and Live Happily Ever After, which gave the whole game away and thus was pared down. As with most comedies of its time, this movie has a whimsical feel to it and aims to entertain and leave you with a happy after taste. In today's era with its plethora of hi-tech gadgets, it is difficult to envision a heist. The film is set and was filmed in France, though the characters speak entirely in English. This stylish crime-caper comedy is far too long, but filled with fun anyway. Griffith is an old reprobate, a third-generation forger and the Parisian setting make HOW TO STEAL A MILLION a superior piece of cinematic fluff. The French actors in the cast lend the principals.
