Eraserhead was not an immediate critical darling. Eraserhead screened almost exclusively as a midnight movie. David Lynch's Eraserhead must stand as a pinnacle of screen surrealism to rival Bunuel's Un Chien Andalou. Jack Nance plays Henry, a Chaplin/Keaton figure caught in a noir nightmare of fatal femmes. Eraserhead is a sickening bad-taste exercise made by David Lynch under the auspices of the American Film Institute. The film's score and sound design were also created by Lynch, with pieces by a variety of other musicians also featured.
